WRECK VICTIMS WIN CASE AGAINST ESTATE

By Kirk Loggins, Staff Writer

"A Davidson County Circuit Court jury has assessed $369,000 in damages against the estate of an elderly woman who caused a traffic accident in Hermitage in 1996.

Witnesses said driver Helen Sullivan, who was in her late 70s, turned left into the path of another vehicle at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Juarez Drive.

Sullivan died as a result of the crash, while the driver of the other car, Stephanie Edgison, suffered injuries to her foot, hand and mouth. Edgison's 6-year old daughter, Shaina Edgison, had both her thighs broken.

The Edgisons ran up about $60,000 in medical bills after the accident. Shaina has had repeated operation on her legs, but doctors say they do not expect her to have permanent impairment.

The jury awarded $257,000 in damages Wednesday to the little girl, who is now age 8; $94,000 to Stephanie Edgison; and $18,000 to her husband, Gene Edgison, who was not involved in the wreck.

The Edgisons were represented by attorneys Mary Ann Reese and John Harris."
